Hi all

You have this hand in an MPs tourney. Please ignore the fact it was a robot tourney. Playing 2/1
Quite a few would have seen it, since it was the forums Daylong

The choice had big impact on contracts and possible outcomes. Strangely I(just me) think the wrong bids came to the better contract

I scored ok but was disappointed with some other bidding.

What would you bid and what is your plan

regards P

1H, followed by spades (twice), should show 65

ok that seemed counter to my and half the field's view

I reversed but then bid hearts a second time as the longer suit

Can anyone explain the logic of bidding the shorter suit twice?

My 4NT+1 (don't ask) scored well but 6 spades scored better

Bidding the shorter suit twice shows 6-5, -- could be 6-4, possibly even 5-4 if nothing else to bid

Rebidding the 2nd suit showes a 5 carder.
Hearts is lower ranking than spades, with 55 you would have started
with spade.
Peoble sometimes fake the reverse, but in the given seq. there is no
need. If you start with hearts, either p bids spades (super) or
he rebids NT or 2C, in which case bidding spade is a reverse by responder
and forcing, i.e. natural gets the job done.
With kind regards

Since this is the N/B forum and the hand is somewhat borderline, it is worth mentioning that this sequence also shows a game-forcing hand. With a weaker hand of the same shape, you have to take a more conservative approach.

Oops here is the wonderful hand - you can see how I miscounted my points lol
There actually is not a slam double dummy in spades either
I really thought I could be on for a surprise 6NT

You can also see how tempting slam was and why 4+1 scored well (all those in game scored well)

I will bid a 65 properly next time :)

The GIB bidding system using 3 here as natural seems very strange. If North thinks a diamond contract might be an option, they can bid 2NT and then 3 from partner can be natural. In the meantime, using 3 for a hand without fit and without a suitable diamond holding for bidding NT covers a potential hole nicely. I guess the system must use 3 as a bucket. In any case, well done on getting a good score despite not finding the spade fit. Combining that with a learning experience makes this a great hand!
