5D, should have play.

But instead of 4C, it would have been better to make a X.
3S will go down, and you have a fair chance of getting 500+, 800 being
an option, 4C gets you nowhere.
Now you are quite likely of 2 cashing tricks, and diamonds seems to
be your best combined suit.
With kind regards

X can also elicit a 3NT call from partner with say Ax or Kx, 6 D to KQJ and probably a side goodie on the side.

If I remember right, some play X as a stopper ask.
But anyway, I agree, sometimes p is able to bid 3NT.

I think it common to play double if 3S as responsive. I see nothing wrong with 4C. Slam is definitely possible and, far from being a ‘nothing’ bid, 4C is almost surely the best way to start the enquiry.

As for what to bid now, 4H is trivial provided that partner won’t worry that you have, say, xx AQxx x AJxxxx

I don’t think he should. I think all hands with 4H and 5+ clubs double 3S, other than highly distributional strong hands, which are rare in these auctions…partner should have a sound opening bid to come in 3D missing all our aces and the opps rate to have 7-12 hcp in spades.

I suspect partner will be dying a slow death over there after 4H. He couldn’t raise clubs, so won’t have KQ (even doubleton, he should raise) and he has neither red ace. So I’m not sure he’ll cooperate with our slam move even with, say, Kx xxx KQJxxxx Kx, where slam is decent n a non heart lead and not always down then.

If we’re worried that partner might pass 4H then we have to bid 5D. You say that partner should never pass 4H? Unless you are in a very solid partnership, I’d never be so sure😀

What I do know is that 4H may end the auction….but that may actually be great for us! xx KJxx KQJxxxx x. +450 for all the mps (other than the possible 500 v 3S x’d).

Seriously? You realise partner overcalled 3D vulnerable? Show me a hand where pd can bid 3D and you should not explore a slam. I am looking for slam here. 3SX is definitely NOT penalties, so 4C is fine. 4H is straightforward now and if by any chance pd can co operate we are off to the races.

Pass is not an option
I played in 4+1, holding A2, T9, KQJ8542, 73

K lead, K onside, K offside - no slam

Bidding 3D vulnerable on that hand is really pushing out the boat in my opinion. I would not.

I have 7 diamonds to KQJ, and Ax, 2272
It's marginal but I would not pass

But I don't bid like other people, let's do a "poll" :)

I agree, 12 tricks are a real posibility, but I dont think, I will have a chance to find out, if
we are off 2 cashing tricks or not.
