it take some time to adjust tool to defend oponet biding
as far as I can remeber
from TEXT book
you have 2 tool to defend at level 1 the take out double and the overcall
when i began to play bridge 40 year ago nobody was opening a weak 2
and 2 opening was strong Acol type or very strong Goren type

i found the book terorist moscito on the internet more then 10 year ago
there is very good chapter on defnsive biding ;
the basis for defending at the 2 level is:

The general idea throughout this section is that double shows
general values, with defence including at least a doubleton in

the opponents’ suit or suits— a sort of Weiss Double. Over-
calling 2 N usually shows a long minor, and cheap minor-suit

• Over 2 M : 3m= m+ M ; 3 M = Strong hand with oM ; 4m= fg

with 5 oM +m; 4 M = strong with m’s.

• Over 2♦: 3♣= weaker t/o; 3♦= strong t/o, spl ♦; 4♣=

M +♣’s, limited; 4♦= M ’s limited.

the laurel and hardy look good on paper can be a nightmare in real situation

for defending on the 2 level he propose 3 option
1 Double with a 1 suiter ( PARTNER SHOW POINT BY STEP )
2 use laurel and hardy with 2 suit (BIDING THE SUIT YOU DONT WANT TO PLAY)

3 bid 2NT with 13-15 HCP AND BALANCED HAND !
