My hand
third play high is a common meme
on trick 4 Gib plays small when playing the J♠ would force the King.
Sure it didn't matter but costs nothing to play correctly

Such "rules" are useful crutches because we are not algorithms.
I imagine the information available is sufficient to deduce (with due time and means) that it doesn't matter: in that case GIB randomizes.

I don't think Gib is playing random, I think Gib is playing it's lowest card (the 4)
Sarcasm is a state of mind

GIB has a small collection of empty teacups next to its main CPU.When faced with the choice of which card to play in third seat it looks into the third cup and consults the arrangement of the tea leaves.Depending on the humidity the leaves swell or contract to varying extents. That's how GIB decides.
on this one from the auction it is pretty clear what declarer is going to make.
West most likely hasQ♠ K♥ Q♦....but you are right it would be nice
if GIB did was is normal but GIB never does
what I hate is when GIB peaks and knows when to play a spot card instead of KQ or J
