It needs a club lead to defeat 6.

Many will start with the A - particularly if match-points.

Having said that, I wouldn't have bid 6.

I think a heart would be a pretty terrible lead, the chances of the A holding are virtually none! I like to think I would find a club lead at the table, but who knows, it's much easier when you can see all the hands!
"definitely that's what I like to play when I'm playing standard - I want to be able to bid diamonds because bidding good suits is important in bridge" - Meckstroth's opinion on weak 2 diamond

Yes - even if it is possible that south only has a five-card suit, the bidding suggests extreme shape and a likely void in at least one of the hands. My "many will start with A" is a bit silly. Lead choices are likely to be a diamond or a club and there is a lot to be said for an attacking lead on the auction.

The interesting thing for me is that for making 6 spade one has to overuff the first heart card

Maybe I am missing something but isn't 6 always going down even on a lead if South holds up the A for three rounds?

If the first two diamonds win, declarer is in dummy and can switch to clubs.

Only an opening club lead sets 6S.If a heart is led the dummy ruffs and declarer overruffs. If he does not do so he goes down on careful defence. And what name can be given to this overruffing coup!

No, he doesn't LOL!!

Declarer switches to small to the 10 if south plays low ( King drops under the Ace on next round of ) and small to the Ace if south plays the King. When, or if north wins with the Q of , he can do nothing as he will not have any more (after 2 previous rounds) so he either has to play a (ruff-sluff) and loser goes away) or 4th and declarers loser goes away. It takes a lead to defeat the 6 contract.

Have another look. North will not have another diamond!

Quite correct. After 2 rounds of diamonds, club to the 10 and then the Ace of clubs drops the king and dummys clubs is good to pitch the diamond :D

I have read about this type of coup in "Right Through the Pack". The author refers to this as "The Robert Coup", and this is also in The Encyclopedia of Bridge by this name. So this would be called a Robert Coup.

Yes, very interesting. But this, however, should not be a "Robert Coup" that presupposes a "process of reducing the atouts to a lower number of those of the opponent" that here are not (beyond the ruffing and the over-ruffing).(Lovera)
