Maybe this ambiguity just doesn't come up that much in actuality. I tend to make lots of incomplete designations, with the intended meanings as described in Law 46B, but I'm not sure if I've ever omitted the suit when ruffing and then leading a trump. But maybe I have, it's not something I think about a whole lot, so it doesn't stick in my memory much.
But I know for a fact that I've never run into a situation where someone made an issue of it. Then again, we've also had dozens of threads here about players picking up their cards instead of using the pass card at the end of the auction, but I've never encountered a problem with it at a real table.
