Yes. Tap a bid to see what it means. Before you make a bid, hold your finger on the bid to see explanation. If it's not what you want swipe off somewhere outside the bidding box and try another one.

Yes the mobile skins for iOS and Android behave very similarly (bugs permitting). I often play against robots on a Samsung S5 (Android) mobile phone and it picks up the explanations OK.

Agree with everything that's been said.

1. Non best hand takes away some of the proven bot strategies like weird 1N and 2N openings.

2. 16 boards is too few; 64 is too many. Suggest 2 x 16 to evaluate how you're doing at halftime.

3. MPs really plays like BAM here. I would be OK with it but IMPs provides more variation and is a truer test I think.

Vampyr, I suggest that you just have a trial go at playing some robots for a day or so, and see how you get on with them. There are some free alternatives for doing this.

I think 64 board matches were a bit long. It was often difficult to find times for people to meet up to get the matches done quickly.

You don't have to play them all at once. And you don't have to "meet up", you can each play them at a time that's convenient to you. Yeah, It's annoying that you can't start until your opponent accepts.

I am interested but need to be educated. Is the format 2 tables You and 3 robots v opp and 3 robots. Also can one play with the old installed BBO? I much prefer this to the web based BBO.

Thanks

Nevertheless I think 64 boards is way too long - particularly for the early rounds. Difficult to fit this in (at least for me) if you're playing a round a week.

If it was a v. serious tournament I would support longer rounds but feel it is unnecessary for the purpose.

I voted for non-best-hand because it removes one of the ways to take advantage of the special robot format.

I dislike best hand too, not only for that reason but also because I find it boring having so many 1NT openers and almost never defending.

Yes. Just like Robot Duplicate tournaments, except it's just 2 tables.

No. Challenges are only supported in the web and mobile apps.

It took me less than an hour for each 16-board segment of my matches. I estimate the total time I spent was 2-3 hours/week.

But maybe that's why I lost. :)

A few people posted comments without specifically mentioning they wanted to play, but assuming they all (except 1eyedjack) do, we currently have 19 players:

smerriman
Phil
Vampyr
broze
diana_eva
shyams
hrothgar
phoenix214
nullve
zebutin
barmar
olegru
Wackojack
gordontd
eagles123
nekthen
jeffford76
nige1
manudude03

There have been 25 poll entries but I can't see who, so if you voted but haven't posted, make sure you do so :) Will leave things open for people to join until after the weekend.

It looks like the format is going to be 32-board IMPs without best hand set.

Some have suggested short rounds just for the early rounds. Maybe the final could be 64 boards?

Yep, sounds like a good idea for the final (and maybe semis) if the participants are keen.
