Small spade in so far as any lead can be correct this is striaght out of txt book for beginners, or Goren "better bridge...."

7 . I'm a believer in leading partner's suit when partner bids one unless there's some overriding need to make another lead. I don't see one.

It is clear partner typically has (at most) 2 spades on this auction and that partner does not have too many clubs (since I have 5 and LHO has at least 5). What's more, partner has only modest honor values since I have a very sound minimum range opening bid and the opponents crawled toward game (suggesting they have slightly more than half of the deck's honor values). Yet partner bid a suit freely. Weak hand and free bid suggests that partner's suit is a pretty good one. So I lead partner's suit, especially since there is no clear or obvious reason not to listen to partner's suggestion.

Maybe we should look for a club ruff. Any tricks available in other suits are not likely to disappear.
