He does not have a max, or he would have redoubled previous round. If he had a penalty double for clubs and holding 3-4 spades, he could have redoubled.(but I am not quite sure about that)
He has at least 3 spades or they would have bid it already.
He could have bid 2 if he wanted a choice between red suits.
We should not be seeking game after we already passed 1 and lack of redouble previous round.

I have no idea what all of this sums up to. I think this is one of those DSIP doubles. So I will bid 2 for the insurance. He heard my pass over 1 he can always correct it. Our spade fit can not be any better than heart fit. And if he really meant penalty, I will say that I am sorry.

How many diamonds did you promise? I think that partner wants to compete further, but doesn't know the best strain, with eg 5 and 3.

So takeout.

I would not be at all surprised to find p with 4 clubs and
some good spots and that they were trying for a penalty. Our
hand is not only minimum but sub minimal when it comes to
defense though I really like the club Q in this auction it
does not make up for my lack of tricks elsewhere. P hand
might look like Kxx xxxx Qx KT9x.

2d

mainly because I wish to give p another spot to play and warn them
about the lack of defense on my part. With 4 hearts I would simply
bid 2h.

The only other interpretation of x would be if responder was
something like 4441 and wanted to bring a 44 spade fit into the
picture if competing further. This interpretation makes little
sense since its perfection depends on the opps making a balancing
x and that in and of itself is such a small target as to make it
not worthwhile especially since we would lose the penalty application
of x. The delayed x helps opener make better decisions since responder
did not xx to show a hand near max.

4=4=3=2
Ought not be DISP/Cooperative as partner is a passed hand and you opened in third seat.
Bid 2.
Be the partner you want to play with.
