Playing standard French 5 card majors (not too different from SAYC), my
partner would like to make 1C forcing; if partner has 0-5, he bids 1D (would
have been ideal for a 20pt hand with six clubs and a singleton heart that I
had the other day). Obviously this introduces a few knock-on effects and I
wondered if anybody can point me in the direction of an 'official'
discussion of this methodology if one exists.
Thanks
Marc

A good treatment is Dutch Doubleton.
In this system 1C can be 2 cards and includes ANY 18-20 balanced and weak NT hands with 4432 exactly.
See for example this convention card:

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do!

with 1S 5+, 1H 5+ or 44M w one m 4+, 1D 2+, 2C 6+
but i hope much you can perform your idea to a more comfortable use
