Why wouldn't I? If partner doesn't show spades I'll just rebid my hearts.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

(1) for me

I will raise spades or bid 2 over any other bid from p.

I think you have found a hand that would be opened by everyone everywhere all the way back in time. Culbertson would be happy with 2 1/2 quick tricks, Goren would open with the 11 HCP & 3 distribution points, Bergen wouldn't even think twice....Maybe Al Roth would apply some super conservative philosophy to think about it a second before he opened, not sure on that one.

What's plain to me, though, is that I should open it, and you should open it unless you have a specific agreement with partner that you should not open normal hands.

Easy 1H, the more interesting question is if the hands worth 2 or 3 spades if partner responds 1S.

if you have a style where you can show this with 2 or 3 spades use it, I would bid 4 as a game try.

As in "bid game, let partner try to make it"?

Sure, a fine major suit, 2.5 quick tricks, a sound Goren 13 count, no rebid problems.

Having not thought of a toy where a raise to 2 means anything else, we will try that. Never knew it was a style.

Simply,it conforms to applicable rule of 22 for this hand, so opening 1H is reasonable.

seems a fairly simple 1 opening to me

No, a game try in that context is where you bid game and try to make it.

A game invitation is where you bid it and invite partner to make it :)

I am about to play with a partner with whom I open this 2. If he inquires via 2NT I am to bid 3 to show the 6-4. With everyone else I open 1. How bad can it be?
