EW are vulnerable and NS not vulnerable. North Declarer. Bidding:
After two passes, South opens 1♠ in 3rd position, you as West overcall 2♣, North bids 2♦ and after two passes what is your action?
Assuming you double, North redoubles, your partner East passes and South, after some thought, passes too. Your bid?

This is not the same as (say):
(1m)-X-(XX)-P
(P) -......where most people expect the doubler to start scrambling.
On the OP scenario, the overcaller has fairly accurately described with the rebalancing double; advancer had to do something, and he decided to defend.

O.K., apparently you would not have overcalled 2C. But, doubling 1S with 3-4-1-5 is not particularly attractive either. I don't believe the 2C choice was outlandish. And, as things have developed, you have better defense against 2DXX than partner might have hoped for.

Everyone seems to play that partner's pass says he wants to defend, so I'd assume that's what he means. I'm not convinced that it's best, though, especially if your style is to double both with and without four hearts here.

No I meant, why can't we be south? In the newspapers we are always south, why can't we be south on the forums as well? Putting us in the west seat makes it too hard!

With my partner our agreement is that his pass suggests defending 2D so we have nothing to think about.
I'm fine with 2C btw, and I would certainly not double! 1NT is possible because of those nice 10's (especially in spades).

But, South is always the Declarer in the newspapers; and you don't want to be declarer this time

X, followed by 2H.
There are two schools, one says - pass after XX is converting
the other school says, this showes no preference.
The argument against the 2nd school is, that they may psych XX.
Take your pick, whatever, they will have diamond fit.
With kind regards
