Pass on both.

If partner cannot reopen on #1, we don't want to be declaring.
On 2, it could be right to bid, but it will get us too high quite often, and facing most random opening bids, 2 is a nice place to be.

1. Pass, on grounds that pard's likely diamond shortage will encourage him to balance on a better than min hand. Will bid 3 over his (would-be) take out dbl.

2. Opposite a random, 3. Opposite my regular pard, pass! By the way,

1 1NT
2 3
4

should show 3 hearts, since a slam is inconsistent with the previous 2.

I'd definitely double on the first one, pass on the second.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Well, since I'm not going to sit for 2X, I'd better just double now.

2nd one is close. But since I am not sure if I'd invite at IMPs, I'd better pass at MPs.

On 1 I passed which worked great. Pard held x Axxxx QT AKxxx and did not reopen. We picked up an easy 200. I do like this strategy instead of a negative double since I am very comfortable bidding spades after a reopening x.I'm unclear what the real downside is.

I passed the second. Pard held QJTxxx Kx Ax AJx (1N anyone?) 11 tricks were routine. At other tables our LHO made a cheesy overcall on a 2335 12 count and pairs got to 4 on momentum.

Almost too good but I'd 1N that.

I'd rebid 3, 2 is 10-14 and the suit is good enough. But you can transfer J to us and I'd bid the same 2-pass.

How many spades are you going to bid comfortably over a reopening double?
The easiest way to count losers is to line up the people who talk about loser count, and count them. -Kieran Dyke

I know, this seems like the main risk. I'd settle for 2 accepting the consequences if partner has 17-ish and cannot move. However, I don't know that everyone is carrying on to game if this hand doubles and partner bids 3.
