This talk by Dr Vandaya Shiva was when she was given the 2010 Sydney Peace Prize. I couldn't find a link which included ONLY her talk, so there is an intro at the beginning. It's a bit long but very much worth listening to.

The links below, which were the original posts, seem to be a bit flip for these forums, so the link above has some more weight as she is an internationally recognized authority with some expertise in this area.

Interesting rebuttal to the shouting by the GMO people that GMO is the only way to feed the world

Well, for starters, I am looking at the diagram on the first link and having some doubts about this guy's claims already.

Skimming through the long report, I am not getting a very good idea of how the comparisons are being made. Feel free to correct me if you've read it in detail and found something I've missed.

I think the jury is still out, though I always keep in the back of my mind something I read a few years back about the complexities of the interconnectedness of genes, and how gene modification then was like introducing rabbits to Australia.

Edit: Aha! Found it. http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC1126303/

"Gene transfer is more like introducing rabbits to Australia than it is like a heart transplant: it makes change in a cellular ecosystem that will almost always be pleiotropic in its effects, and often in unpredictable ways."
