Partner opens 1h as dealer. You bid 1s. LHO overcalls 2, Partner bidding 3NT, showing 18/19 points. Whats the bid?

I would simply bid 4.
The hand will not play very well in NT, we have 8 or 9 spades.
Club King is of little value so I don't dream about a slam.

The biding is crazy.

Partner has at most 3 diamonds, so they have 10 and never bid.
They have at most 7 clubs with at most 12 HCPS between them but still bid them.

I will take the low road too. I prefer 4 too pass. I will survive even an early club ruff and I guess that I will make a trick more then the guys who pass 3 NT.
Kind Regards

Roland

The OP is in the context of a 4-card major system, so it's theoretically possible (I think?) for partner to be 44 in the reds.

Also, your hand has only 12 cards.

you only have 12 cards. If partner's 3NT/2 shows 18-19 what does 2NT/2 show 12-14? :D

I did not think it was possible to use the hand generator to produce a hand with only 12 cards. I thought that the hand generator would refuse to post a hand with any number of cards other than 13.

So to summarize, it's 4-card majors, we have 12 cards and partner has to jump to 3NT in order to show 18-19?
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

12 cards and 5 losers. Add another spot card and it's 6 losers. Since a 18-19 hand has a cover card expectancy of 5, we should make 12 tricks here.

Hence, 6. Note that pard is likely to have a doubleton club, which makes it very likely he has 3 spades.

its the best 12 cards we can't have for this auction, even slam can be too little.
