I have BBO running in Vista as well as Linux ( Ubuntu 9.04 thro WINE).
I would like to know if I can chat in other language than English?
It seems that the Chat window does not support anything other than English, though a few Unicode characters is displayed but it is not enough to chat in other language.

But I have seen tournament directors make tournament chats in other languages. How is it possible?

Your best bet is to use the web version of BBO at

www.bridgebase.com ( there is a CLICK TO PLAY BRIDGE )

This is not completely cross lang capable but it is a lot closer than the windows version.

The interface is slightly different , but it wont be hard to sort things out, I think.

On the contrary!

If You use the option "click here to play or watch bridge in Your web browser" You cannot read or write chat in any other language eccept English.

If You choose the downloadable version You are able to select language. Then You can read and write both in English and the selected language. When You change the language You successflly can read the text, written in the specific language.

It's Your choice :P . The operating system is Your choice too, and the downloadable version isn't compatable with any Linux version!!!

u4eni4ka , i use ubuntu+firefox mysef ( lang = english ) and Gerardo does the same (lang=spanish).

Some Qs to help us sort this out:

1) What OS / Browser/ Language do you use?

2) try this link ( it forces language to English ) --- does it behave better ?

http://www.bridgebas...ent.php?lang=en

3) this link is the normal link, defaulting to your usual language

http://www.bridgebas...ient/client.php

4) What exactly do you mean by 'can't read chat in any lang except english?' What happens if someone types a word in, say, french ? What do you see?

5) What exactly do you mean by 'can't write chat in any lang except english?' What happens if you type in (say) "abc" vs something in your language that uses more complex chacters?

Flash has a bug with keyboard input.

So Unicode characters can't be entered with keyboard. Copy/Paste is fine though (but annoying).

Reading has been no issue (bah, I'm able to see Chinese chars correctly, can't read them).

Not all Chinese chars shows correctly, like some Chinese team names are unreadable chars and the same thing in chat. Maybe this is because the windows client do not use Unicode ?
