Guess this poll is mainly about whether there's a hand you would double 1x with that you wouldn't double 2x with. I think the south hand is clearly worth doubling 1 but is it worth doubling 2? It's bare minimum but clear to double 1 so should it pass here?

If we accept East's double, and just focus on NS, I don't like 6

South had a Get out of Jail Free card and failed to use it.

6 is the worst call and South is the culprit.

The cue.

Basically, the cue assumes that guy, who made
the t/o holds 3 Aces.

I dont like the t/o, I think 3D is a lot better, but
I could agree to accetp the claim, that this is a
style thing, and than the bid may have been bad,
but it was not the main responsible reason for going
overboard.

I don't like making a minimum t/o double without a fourth spade, prefer to pass this hand.

The 5 cuebid without having an agreed suit is a little out of line, the values are there, but there's not a clear direction.

Bidding 6 is way too much. I assume south thought 5 forced to the 6-level, else it's insane to do anything other than pass.
Kind regards,
Harald

Disagree with south's initial double - it doesn't have the correct shape. South should pass. North's 5 bid is optimistic, but reasonable. After east doubles, south should know north is likely to have a two suiter. Just pass and let north pick a suit.

I cannot imagine passing with South's hand - Dbl is perfect. What's there not to like? We have AAK, a decent suit and most importantly we have short hearts (Having Axx of spades [3 of them rather than 4] is a very minor factor for me, the most important is to act with shortage). I don't expect partner to be acting every time he has 3-4 hearts and some balanced 12 counts or w/e.

Now over 4H, North has a decent hand but doesn't have a clear bid. I haven't talked with my partner what direct 5S vs. 4NT (2 places) then bid 5S would mean. After 5H and X, I think South has a clear pass with no extras and see what North is on about and if he still asks me to pick a suit (?), I obviously then would bid 6D.

The double over 2 was borderline... 6 plain atrocious.

Now as North, I would have just launched into Blackwood ... 4NT - P - 5H - P - 5S. End of story. That's just me, because I suck at cuebids. But the idea is that North knows that South has opening strength and some spade support - he needs to take charge of the auction.
