Kx Axxx Axx Kxxx.

white/red MP.

LHO opens 2S, RHO bids 3D. You pass in tempo as there is no alert, and LHO insta passes lol. Partner asks and 3D is explained as NF. Partner now comes in with 3H. Do you kick it in?

Red/white I wouldn't expect partner to do this with a 5-card suit. So maybe xxxx KJxxxx x Qx? Partner could have more HCP and this would already make it a very good game, so yes, I'd bid 4.

I think RHO is likely to have a stiff spade and the ace of clubs, so anytime partner has Kxxxxx of hearts you will have a shot at game.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Who cares, partner wouldn't reopen if he didn't want us to raise him with a maximum hand full of controls and fit.

On my 3 level overcall style I'd be worried about missing slam, I'd bid 4.

Reluctantly pass. I'll assume that partner placed me with a balanced opener.

Pd passed over 2 Spade with a nice 5 card suit ( or even longer) so he really does not have more the 8 nice HCps. So I would pass.
Ok, He could look at Qxx, KQxxx,x, Qxxx and we miss a good game, but okay I am willing to risk this.
Kind Regards

Roland

since when we overcall with 9 hcp at 3 level?

i'll try 4h now. i dislike the king of spade placement but that life. i hope we have a 9 card fit and we'll have some play...

3 is just balancing, it's not a 3-level overcall (he passed earlier, remember?). We also know that K is probably useless.

Pass

(only alternative imo is 3NT)

Pass. Spade King is dubious now. This hand has the appearances of splitting badly.

let's give rho 6card diam and singleton spade for 3d bid. partner has 8-10 hcp and 5-6h. Something like: xxxx KQJxxx Qx x or xxxx KQxxx Qx Qx or xxxx KQxxx Kx xx or xxxx KQxxx x QJx or xxxx KQJxx xx Ax

I would guess 4H is 50/50. We have 2 spade losers + 1 or 2 minor suit losers.

Maybe we are hanging partner, but 50/50 games should be bid.

4H.

Another solution on the problem would be to call the TD before after the pass, see the auction rewinded and make a t/o double over 3. If you think your hand is too weak for that (I think it is), then face this situation.

As it is, I'd raise to 4, but that's maybe stretching a little.
Kind regards,
Harald

I am sorry, but I just don't think that 3 level balancing bids should really be that light. I expect something like a 3514 12 count (below my standards for a 3 level overcall when you lack shortage in spades), or a 10 count with 6 hearts. I think this is an easy 4H bid.

I'd be willing to cut pard some slack if this was a fit auction, but it isn't, so partner should have a fair hand for this balance.

So 4H it is.
