How many points does 2NT show after 1, 1,2?

I thought that as it's a forcing situation then 2NT should be minimum (6-8) and non-forcing. This being different from a non-reversing situation: 1,1,2 when it would be more like 10 points (still non-forcing though).

Interested to know what people think. Also, is French 5CM any different in this respect?

NF 6-7, I think. With 8 opposite 17+ you shouldn't invite.

since(if) the reverse is (nearly)GF i would recommend that 2NT is stronger than 3NT. So upon reverse 2NT or 4.suit is strong with or without spade control.

If u like weaker reverses (on shape too) i can recommend playing 2NT as lebensohl, were opener does not accept the transfer to clubs with a GF hand. Eg 1C-1H,2D-2NT, 3D (shows 5-5 and GF). Playing wih lebensohl improves all the situations were responder has 7(8)+ HCP, since all responces except 2NT are forcing (GF).

Hi,

for most adv. players, and this holds true for most modern
system as well, e.g. French 5CM, 2NT would be conventional.

The French call it 2NT moderatuer, here in the forum it is calles
ingberman (?!).

The bid asks opener to bid 3C in case he holds
a normal reverse and responder will now pass,
give preference to 3D or ...

With kind regards

I play 2NT opposite reverse as Lebensohl. Reverse being 16+, this denies good 8 or more HCP. Opener can refuse Leb by not bidding 3 (which is the only bid I could pass).

If reverse is almost GF, you still need a "bad" bid. I mean, what do I do with a totally crap hand? Partner promised 5 clubs and 4 diamonds. With 3532 I could possibly repeat hearts (but don't want to), but what to do with a minimum 4432 hand???

I would prefer 2NT as the escape bid - can't support partner and can't show GF.

I play it as Lebensohl when I can. But the natural treatment is non-forcing, thus 6-7 HCP.

It sounds like Ingberman, Moderateur, and Lebensohl are all the same thing. Kind of like Cappelletti, Hamilton, and Pottage. Is that right? If so it's a good thing to know.

The standard treatment of 2NT=6-7 is not an invitational bid but rather a preference. Since 3C is also not forcing, they both show the same minimum hand but one that has a distribution that argues for playing the trump fit at the lowest level opposite the good 16 hcp reverse.

Lebensohl et al are used (generally by better players that are willing to lose the preference bids and play in 3C no matter) to aid in game seeking auctions to help clarify the eventual level and strain of the game contract.
