The hand in question.

I think I showed a strong minor two-suiter ... How did GIB find the pass to make us play slam in opponents long major??? There must be an error somewhere to correct.

Not sure I understand your question.
It looks like GiB North bid a RKCB ask in clubs and you replied 6S.
GiB East did well not to double you into 7C, if that is what you mean.

Yes, Steve2005, it IS incredible that 6S has a defined meaning, but given that it's a GIB definition, it's not at all incredible that it has such a remarkably STUPID defined meaning. GIB/GIBBO is a pathetic joke.

If you think GIB’s bidding is so "pathetic," there is a incredibly simple solution: stop playing with it! No one is forcing you to log on and play with a robot. Either adapt, stop complaining or go find a table with human players.

Thanks for the advice, Jilly, but I happen to enjoy the robot games in spite of how poor the GIBBO robots are. For that reason I continue to play them. Guess what, Jilly? If I didn't enjoy the games (in spite of the low quality of the GIBBO robots), I wouldn't play them, because as you astutely pointed out, such a solution would quite obviously be "incredibly simple".

I would, of course, enjoy the games infinitely more if the GIBBO robots were competent, as I'm sure many (perhaps most) people would, but sadly we have to make do with the robots that the site provides. Our only hope of the robots being improved (or replaced by better ones) is to persist in pointing out the numerous examples of their low quality, just as in all aspects of life. If you sit silently by and just accept mediocrity (or worse) then you are probably forever doomed to suffer it. Politics can provide many examples of this. Only by speaking out against injustice or imperfection can we hope to improve bad situations. Do you think the definition of 6S on the hand in question makes any sense whatsoever? Wouldn't YOU prefer to play with and against better robots?

You must be a total masochist 😂

I certainly agree with you on one thing: I absolutely hope the robots improve, everyone who plays with the bots would prefer a better model!
I admire your dedication to speaking out and trying to improve this situation over the years. That said, we all have our own windmills to tilt, and GIB just happens to be yours.

Thank you, Jilly. You've given me a nice chuckle, as I suspect was your intention. Perhaps you remember the great line by Kevin Bacon's character in the classic 1978 comedy Animal House: "Thank you, Sir. May I have another?" The Bacon character was being painfully paddle-whipped during a fraternity hazing as he said this. (Maybe this was one of the "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" - ha, ha.)

No, unlike that Bacon character, I'm not a masochist. The fact is that the pleasure of the robot games far outweighs the pain of having to play with and against "bridge players" as consistently and glaringly bad as the GIBBO robots. As John Wayne often said in his movies, "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do," so if I want to enjoy the robot games (which I very much do), I have no choice but to endure the egregious GIBBO robots sitting West, North, and East.

As for my "dedication", thank you again, but I feel I owe it to Diana for her excellent judgment and inspiration in creating the essential "GIB bashing" thread that has received over three quarters of a million views since she established it less than a year ago. She is really the one who deserves all the credit. My purpose in that thread, as I'm sure you know, is to expose the hideous lack of ability of the GIBBO robots in the hope that the powers that be will take the necessary steps to either greatly improve them or (better yet) to replace them with competent robots. If they did, BBO (which is already a very fine bridge site and always has been) would become an even better site. Any member, player, or paying customer who interacts with the robots would have a far better experience, and BBO itself would likely benefit even more than its clientele - through increased customer loyalty, decreased customer dissatisfaction, and MANY new BBO members who would be attracted to the site because of its NEW and DECENT robots.

I will be very, VERY happy if and when the time ever comes that it is no longer necessary for me or anyone else to point out robotic flaws.
