As was said, ending up in game, holding 26HCP is ok.
A more interesting question is, could you detect the spade issue and trying to make 5m (also not making).
Keep in mind, that game contract in a inor suit is 3NT.
If you respond 1M with 4-4 in diamonds and a major, opener may be able to sense the spade issue, it will get
messy if he tries to find out, ... a psych spade value showing bid may help, but as I said, it will get messy,
and sometimes they dont attack spade.

We could detect it

1-1
1N(15-bad 19)-2(art)
3(17-19 5)-3(5+)
3(cue/stop)-3(4th suit ish, I don't have a spade stop)

What we do about it isn't clear, probably play 5

Note that as I commented earlier, this auction gives away a lot of information. You could easily deter a minor suit lead (both players showed their five-card minor) and you gave opponents the chance to double 3 for the lead (which could help them even if you did in fact have a spade stop). After all this work, you've avoided 3nt (most likely one down) to play 5 (also most likely one down). I'd prefer to blast 3nt earlier and hope they can't find a spade lead.

Yes, but the hand opposite could easily from both sides be one where 5m is cold/good rather than also not making
