Double is a stranger bid.. yes, GIB always jumps to 4 of a minor with some values which is annoying as you already found know, though I can't see why you'd expect a double to lead to anything but disaster.

So South was the human who decided to double rather than bidding 2? If it had been a normal takeout then 4 looks about right.

I guess the underlying question is whether the raise by West modifies the duty of North to jump bid with some values. I would imagine yes (3C now should suffice, with Pass denying values) but I've never seen this formally discussed.

I have learnt that double means a strongest hand more than 16 or an hand with the open with the majors or the other major. So dont understand 4 club

It's usually takeout or negative 4-card or 18+. With 15-18 balancedish you can bid 1N and overcall with a 5-card non-takeout shape.

Not strange at all. You double for take out, saying to partner "I've got about an opening and normally 4 and don't mind playing one of the other two suits."

Partner says "Ok, understood, we'll play 4." Makes perfect sense with his hand.

I don't know where you learnt that, but it's definitely not standard and not what GIB plays.

Agree, with a bad hand, North can just pass when West bids 2. Bidding at the 3 level shows values in this auction. I don't understand jumping to 4 just to show "values" at all, but since North is a GIB they don't have to make any sense.

Also, even a human partner may only have 2 clubs on occasion.
