With the Trump Tariffs now in place, could this be an opportunity for Canadians to jump on the bandwagon and redesign Bridge in Canada?

Would your average Canadian Bridge Player prefer a local, affordable tournament, competing against Canadian experts and peers?
When I was serving in our local Unit, it was interesting to learn that the significant majority of Unit Members were non-Life Masters. International competition is not high in priority for these players.

Masterpoints. Bring your ACBL points with you or revamp a “points’ system. Other countries have better systems IMO.

Trump's actions will have consequences. This one had not occurred to me, but it is just a fact that actions have unexpected consequences.

I have played bridge in Tronto and in Montreal, and I believe in Victoria on Vancouver Island, all a long time ago. I am more of a stay at home these days.

Not surprisingly, there is a large anti-American feeling in Canada at present. The politicians may appear to be cowering to the Trump rhetoric but your average Canadian is avoiding anything American like "the plague". *** correction :anything American

I made the OP with some whimsical exaggeration, influenced by the current trend here. Today I heard of 3 pairs who have cancelled their plans to attend the March NABC.

Honestly, Toronto is a great spot for NABCs. I hope the ACBL has them there as often as they can.

Also - this may be news to many Canadians now - but you've got a proud history of welcoming Vietnam War draft dodgers.

Not surprising at all, and I am sure it is so in many other places, probably just about everywhere. Some tihngs are just basic. One of them is that if a person acts like Trump, others will have to cope, but a large part of copiing will be to have as littlle to do with him as possible. For example, imagine a young American, about to graduate from college with a good major and with good grades. Might s/he apply for a job with the fedral government? I cannot imagine doing so. Yep, we will be downsizing.

A schoolyard bully might well be able to steal someone's lunch from time to time, but that only goes so far.
