Because you need to plan ahead. You have to think what to do if pard rebids spades, which seems very likely from our hand.
If you're willing to rebid hearts at the 4 level, then go ahead and bid 2♣. If on the other hand you're not willing to do that, bid 2♥.

Hi,
3H does not show 6-5, but if I bid 4H over
3S or 3 NT, then I show 6-5.
The 3H bid just shows some values, angling
for 3NT.
With kind regards
Marlowe

Why 2C then 3H is not planning ahead? What if Pd bid 3D over 2H?

2) regarding whether or not rebidding 3H over 2S shows 4 or 5: is opener rebidding 2H with 6-4, with some 6-4, or not at all? That influences how I respond with this hand.
3) I have a lot of controls, not just hcp. I am probably willing to rebid hearts twice and then subside if partner has absolutely no fit. ...........and, who is to say that opener is necessarily rebidding 2S?
4) I don't wish to get into debate about whether or not 2NT by opener shows extra values: my style is that it doesn't. But, I can easily rebid 3H/2NT to show 5-6.
If you want to respond 2H initially because to respond 2 clubs creates problems when opener is 5332 with a minimum and rebids 2S as a default rebid, well, then this is an issue of rebid philosophy, not judgment/ planning.

Gee, if P had responded 2C, he/she could rebid 2 & then 3Hts
How about that?

1♠ 2♥
3♦ 4♣
4♦
then I think I bid 4NT. To play. Things have gone very wrong. It would have sooo much been better not to try the clubs after 3♦. A 3NT was absolutely necessary at that stage. Strong hands with misfit are amongst the biggest overbidding traps out there.

Mr. Star Player bid 4♥!
I had opened with
BTW, the other room, with two star players bidding, went 1♠-2♣-2♦-2♥-3♦-3♥-3NT making 4.
We went down as the hearts broke badly.
Mr. Star Player berated me viciously for not bidding 4♠. It was as unpleasant an experience as I have had on BBO. For any star players who are reading this, you have an obligation to be leaders of the bridge community and to be extra sensitive ambassadors of the game. As it turns out, he quit the match later in a huff and it never got finished.

Anyway, this so-called expert scored in this board scored ZERO for hand evaluation. 4♣ is a wild bid on a dangerous situations, which got what it deserved.
