Is there a way during casual play to extend the time or pause play to view the four hands just completed before the next hand is presented?

The previous hand is always available on the History tab. You can agree to pause play on the new hand while you look at and post-mortem the hand.

There is a timeout clock by default (which will kick out dealer who hasn't called in "X time"), but that can be disabled using the +slow+ tag in your description, or by requiring "permission to play".
