3NT I think. A club lead is the most dangerous, but even then, I can afford to duck a diamond if the clubs are 4-4 or the jack provides a second stop, and if the diamonds lie badly, I have a chance the spades lie well. 4♠ and 5♦ look less likely to make.

Form of scoring makes a difference to me - but not on this hand. I want to play 3NT. At imps, there is a temptation to play 4S but that is not as good of contract. In NT even with a club lead I can play off AK of diamonds before I have to fall back on 3-3 spades with queen onside if the diamonds don't break. Even then, LHO would have to hold the long diamond and be able to lead a high spot-card club. It would take a good lead and bad luck to fail in 3NT.

Imps - 5D
mps - 3N

My first thoughts would be to look to play in 6♦ although I suspect I end up in 3NT.

This was the whole hand:
We manage to accidentally rightside this one in 3N, W has an automatic heart lead, it's much tougher on E's normal club lead.

Looking at both hands? You need 3-2 diamonds to have any chance to make, picking up the ♠Q, and then either 3-3 spades or some kind of simple or double squeeze.
You tend to think that way as CEO of Rose Glasses Company.

Why would you want to play 5D? I would prefer 4S to 5D, I think, unless I'm missing something.

The bidding would shut out the chance of reaching 6♦ although it would strike a chord on picking up the hand.
I'm still trying to get my head round the probabilities of bidding and making 4M with a 7 card fit
