Here's some music to listen to while you ponder it. It's the Kinks: Lola.
Normally when I play robot tournaments I check the bidding carefully. What do you make of this?

Well, it means to me whatever I have agreed with partner :)

So with any human it is a raise, but with GIB it's a non-fit balanced 11-count.

Excellent GIB bidding to immediately get to 2NT opposite a possibly light 3rd hand opener. What could go wrong?

I have been burned by this in the past

I now remember that GIB thinks that this shows approximately 11+ balanced

The definite answer care of the maestro, Larry Cohen, reads:

Most tournament players use "JACOBY 2NT" in conjunction with their 5-card major system. After an opening of 1-MAJ, a jump to 2NT is conventional. It promises a GF hand and at least 4-card support. This convention should not be used by a passed hand and should not be used if there is interference by the opponents.

I guess GIB agrees with him :)

We play 2nt as invitational with fit, so it makes sense to leave responses by a passed hand unvaried. But if it was normally a game force with fit it has to be something else here, probably natural.

This still doesn't mean that showing 11 HCP wth a balanced hand is a good idea

After reading the explanation of GIB's passed-hand 2N reply, you might pass. Or you might raise to 3NT (as on the left).
3N is a reasonable contract but GIB tells us that a pointy suit lead defeats it. (because of the 4-2 break).

Many partnerships who agree Drury, and fit-jumps by a passed hand, leave 2N as undefined.
Gib is sensible to ascribe some meaning to it -- rather than none.
IMO it should show a 4-card raise with a void.

IMHO 2NT NAT is always a stupid idea, if it is passed by partner you should have been in 1NT or in 3NT. There is always some artificial meaning to be agreed upon that is of better use. So dump the robot and find a decent partner ;)

I don't understand this. If you're playing with a robot you just click on the bid and it will tell you what it means.
I can't vote on this because I don't know what the robot says,

I agree with what Larry Cohen says. Now, North is a passed hand, so it would not be game forcing. I would play it as 10-12 hcp, balanced.

Does Larry Cohon really recommend playing 2NT as natural, here?

It seems incompatible with his aggresive style. We could easily be too high in 2NT opposite a 3rd seat opening.

Of course, 2NT by a passed hand can't be Jacoby - you can't have a GF as a passed hand, unless you have shortness, in which case you can splinter. But that doesn't mean that it has to be natural. You could play it as a minisplinter, or maybe a both minors.

There are also some who use Drury with 3-4 card support and 2NT with 5-card support.
