I am trying to setup the Private Chat function.
I enter a valid User Name after selecting the Private Chat option.
I send a message to that User and I see the message in my Chat box, along with (User Name (Private): followed by the text of the message.
The recipient is signed into BBO as well. She selects the Private Chat option and then enters my User Name.
She does not see the message that I sent to her.
When she sends a message to me, she sees that message in her Chat box, but I never receive the message.
How do we get the Private Chat function to work?
Also, is there such thing as a group Private Chat so, for example, you can setup a Chat with the two people whom you are playing against.

I don't know why you are not seeing each other's messages. If you can see your friend online then you will be on the same server. If you were not on the same server then you'd see the messages in Mail.

When you are playing at a table, you can:
  • chat ->Table: everyone at the table, including your partner, will see your message. Always good to say "Hello" to everyone when you start.
  • chat->Kibitzers: all the kibitzers, and no-one at the table, will see your message. Be careful of the target if you say something like "I'd like a new partner".
  • chat->Opponents: your two opponents, but not your partner, will see your message. This can be used when you want to pass more information to them without giving partner unauthorised information.

You can also use private chat to an opponent if they are seeking further information about a bid, or if you both want to complain about your partners.

I don't work for BBO and any advice is based on my BBO experience over the decades

Thank you for the reply. I am getting closer, at least.

It appears that the table has to be started first, in order to see the option to send messages to the Table and to the Kibbutzers. I now can send a chat to the table and all players seem to see the message in the Chat box almost instantaneously.

That really is the main thing I’m looking for.

However, I would like to be able to use the Private Chat as well on occasion, and that does not appear to work the same way.

I have two opponents who I can log in as. When I send a Private message to one of them, I see the that message in my own Chat box immediately, but the other person receives it in the Messages tab under Email. However, it does not immediately appear. I have to try and refresh the screen by changing the tab in order for it to appear.

When I try to send a Private message to a second user, I get the message – Cannot chat to player. Permission denied.

I tried looking to see what differences might be in their respective Account Settings but did not see anything different.

Additional guidance would be appreciated and, thanks again for the tip on messaging an entire Table.

This usually means he is playing a tournament.
Unfortunately it does not explain that and nor (I think) does it deliver your message when he has finished.
