Mkgnao did finish the 4th set. But it is clear that he just went through the motions.

ArtK78 over Mkgnao 11.5-4.5

This set was tough. I didn't think that I did very well.

Nice job Art! People may scoff at robot challenges, but winning one of these tournaments is hard.

Thanks, all.

I thought that I would present one of the strangest problem hands of the finals. It is a classic Robot bridge problem.

You are south, Vul against not, second seat. The opponents are silent:

AKJT8732
5
AKT
A

The auction:

2C - 3C
3S - 6NT

This is an auction that would never happen in real life. You have to guess if partner has the A and something else to give you 13 tricks (assuming that the spades run).

I guessed to bid 7NT. RHO doubled and led the A. Down 1. Partner's hand:

Q5
KT7
J83
KQ876

So this is a lost board? NO! Olegru had this auction:

2C - 3C
4NT - 5D
7NT

When RHO doubled, Olegru was so sure that 7NT was making that he sent it back! Down 1.

We both thought it was right to bid one more. I just believed my RHO Robot who was on lead.

At least we fixed the robot bug where it would double NT slams and then NOT lead its ace, thinking that it wouldn't go away.

Olegru had an additional chance, since the doubler wasn't on lead.

Hopefully this shows people how bad best hand / IMPs is and how non-best / MPs is the TRUE TEST!

Why do you reckon non-best to be the true test, out of interest? Wouldn't this mean defending a lot more hands, which the robots don't do very well, so there'd be a lot of random scores?
Just from playing that last event, I reckon the vast majority of my bad results were on me, and I only rarely felt frustrated with a GIB horror bid. Add in a load of GIB defensive nonsense and it might start to detract from things.

Perhaps a skilled player can operate GIB better in defense and it's not that bad.

Its a better test because it reflects how bridge is played with actual cards.

Its fine to play stupid robot games when you have the best hand. These strategies are dubious, at best, when you might be outgunned.

Additionally, defending is part of the game. BOT defenders arent inherently bad, but their signaling leaves a lot to be desired.

Congrats ARTK78 on a dominating performance -- I saw only one match that was even close throughout the entire tournament.:)))
