That would be too strict. My first challenge invite to broze timed out, should I have considered that a win by default? Was obvious he hadn't logged on or seen it at all, and we had enough time left to play two sets.

I think if you invite someone and post on here, it's been deemed declined. A single round should not take two weeks.

Look, if you sign up to play, then watch the boards and look out for your invites. However, it's reasonable for two players to agree to play on a date after the challenge too. We all have lives outside of bridge // there might be a real life tourney going on. I for one have two regionals the next two weekends and will not want to play after the session.
Hi y'all!

Winner - BBO Challenge bracket #6 - February, 2017.

Okay..
Ovncylmz-Vampyr, first set 47-0, second set 11-2.

Thanks Vampyr! Good 2nd set, I was lucky in the first set.

I agree with Phil that we should be faster and I believe we will be faster with the 2nd round. I suggest a bracket based on the first round results. Top-8 (based on differences) will be placed 1 to 8 spots in a regular bracket and 9-12 will be randomized to 1-4 and 13-16 will be randomized to 5-8.

What do you guys think?

Yep, sorry for the lack of foresight here. I hadn't wanted to impose a strict deadline for reasons similar to what diana_eva and Phil mentioned above, but had assumed players would be able to at least make contact via the forum if they'd be temporarily unavailable rather than disappear entirely. Things don't work out like that in real life!

For the second round let's make it a strict 1 week time limit - though it's likely to be a lot quicker regardless. If you know you might be away from BBO long enough to miss a 3 day challenge window, let your opponent know. If a challenge expires, the onus is on the person who did not accept to complete two matches within the week - or they will forfeit. If you can't manage to fit in two challenges in a week, this probably isn't something you should have entered.

Will allow olegru + gordontd another day to complete their match - otherwise, for the purposes of getting the second round up and running quickly, I'll give the benefit of the doubt to olegru due to the large margin in the first round.

ovnclymz - will just keep the draw as mentioned originally rather than change things now - that's a possibility for later events, but the difference is pretty minor.

Oops, meant to say above - as neither has posted anything at all, planning to just drop them out when the olegru + gordontd match is complete.

Ovncylmz-Smerriman:
First set: 10-15
Second set: 53-3
Total: 63-18 (+45)

To be honest, I was pretty disappointed with my performance in this match and I was expecting to lose by little after the second set. I was surprised when I saw +50. Then, I saw that GIBs were not nice to my opponent as they were to me.

Board 13 is funny. Why declarer GIB was able to get distribution right after top of the nothing lead to unrelated suit, but misguessed after 4th best lead to the same unrelated suit is a mystery.

Just back from Eastbourne. I seem to have lost to Dadim by default.

And I lost to him for real, big time. He crushed me by 81 IMPs.

I played against eagles123

1st set:
http://webutil.bridg...07323&u=zebutin

eagles123 conceded the 2nd set so it wasn't played, giving me the win.

Most interesting deal to me was #4 when partner opened 2nt and I had 7xx Q107x Jxx J8x in hand. We were vulnerable so bidding to full game feels tempting, on the other hand most likely jack thirds don't pull their full weight and even less so in trump contract. In my eyes hand was basically xxx Q10xx xxx xxx for possible heart contract, so was contemplating between pass and 3nt. This time passed (and robots didn't defend to maximum) to gain small swing, but could see losing a lot on the deal too.

I think he should play even if it is irrelevant for him at this point, because the differential is important in seedings. Not making a bracket is a bad idea because of such reasons, now we have to figure out an adjustment for the second set to seed zebutin.

"definitely that's what I like to play when I'm playing standard - I want to be able to bid diamonds because bidding good suits is important in bridge" - Meckstroth's opinion on weak 2 diamond

Well done you thoroughly trounced me, I made some incredibly dumb plays, my only gripe is when bot screwed me by passing 5n :D

Whackojacko is up by 2 after our first 16 boards

http://webutil.bridg...1055&u=hrothgar

The biggest swing of the session occured on a hand where I made a conservative pass and Wacko choose to invite, racking up a nice +10 IMPs
