I like 3H for the lead. Yes it is forcing and I hope I keep them out of game/slam. I hope partner doesn't start Xing 4mn which I will pull of course.
Second choice is an immediate 4S.

If I was willing for LHO to play 3NT and my only choice was between 3♥ or 3♠ I would bid 3♠ to remove that que bid LHO would want to show a strong hand. If I did let LHO play 3NT, I prefer a top ♠ lead from KQ8xxx in hopes the ♠J drops (stiff in dummy, or ♠AJ doubleton in LHO) and partner might have a minor suit entry. I would begin the ♠ unblock at trick 1.

Opps are game on, and LHO will bid it regardless of you bidding a number of spades or anything else.
If you pass, LHO might balance 3♦ and his pard may not want to raise it to game, as a balancing bid doesn't promise the world.

This must be the Ostrich Convention

Whats the vulnerability and scoring?
I'd consider anything from pass to 3N to 3♠

RHO can have a good hand and no bid since they are too short in hearts to double. Now 3N will often buy the contract. Yes, -450 rates to be poor, but last time this happened (and I have been -450 this way) our teammates bid the making slam their way.
Otherwise, 3♠ for me. The heart length is a huge asset in that it makes takeout doubling very problematic for them. I would never bid hearts for the lead because it is forcing and I don't think the deception will help much...on some sequences it may help them more than hinder them.

Not the Ostrich convention, but the eminently sensible convention. I totally agree with Nuno.

What is the reasoning for acting differently if the opps are not known to be ethical Mike? And did you run into such pairs often at high levels, or was that only be in the early rounds of an event?
