IThis is the second board in a sudden death two board playoff after a tie in an imp team game. You are almost certain that the first board had to be flat, so this in now effectively a one board for the match. Your weak two with 12 points might have deserved better. No one held a gun to your partner's head and made him take the "save". Looks like you might score a heart, two diamonds and one or two spades. You doubt that 4 will be bid after a 1 bid so either your side will be playing 3 at the other table, or will let them play 4.

If that is the case, you MUST make 4. For this problem, we will assume you feel that you must make 4.

The Defense starts with the A and another heart. Plan your play.

Oh well, it is interesting even as double dummy. I have a companion hand to post that requires pretty much the same play. In fact this is a marginally common theme. Meaning it is common enough to found in the heat of battle. I will post the companion hand, which I think is easier than this one, after people have had a chance to look at this one. That should make the solution to the companion jump off the page.
