I don't know how difficult it is to program in changes to GIB's system, but here is a suggestion that I think is worthwhile implementing.
In an uncontested auction
1♠-1N-4♣/4♦/4♥ should show a shortage in the bid suit ("splinter") with a self supporting ♠ suit and values to commit to 4♠
Likewise
1♥-1N-3♠/4♣/4♦
At present, GIB describes these bids as natural and strong. But we already have the lower level in the same suit available for that.
Slam may still be a possibility, here, and having to rebid a blunderbuss 4M on these hands lacks delicacy.
