During last night's MP game this hand was definitely my fault, just wondering what others would do.

Everybody vul, you deal:

KQ KQxx K10xxx Kx

1D-(2H weak)-3D-(3H)... what do you bid now?

Thanks,

ahydra

I'll try 3NT, not with high confidence, but must do something.

Yes, clear 1NT opener if 16 is in range. Easy pass now, too. Partner's by no means done with his singleton heart, unless he is light on values, in which case I'm quite happy defending 3 undoubled. I still don't like my hand if he doubles 3 but I would try 3NT.

Last thing i would do is to bid 3 NT.

People have this belief that aces are good for trump games and slow values are for NT games. Aces are very important in NT games.

Pd has AT MOST 2 aces + void in hearts + less than 4 spades. He is probably like 3055 or 3064 or 3046. If LHO is joking he may have a stiff . They have double fit in majors. What does that tell me to do now ? I dunno yet tbh, 5.45 am and came from work, but i aint bidding 3NT.

Here is a reasonable hand for pd to bid 3 Jxx void Qxxxx Axxxx, Axx void Qxxxx Jxxxx, i mean if you add another ACE to this hand 3 would be the underbid of the century even with a stiff heart.

Seems like we can make 5 if pd is really void in hearts, and we can make 4 if he has stiff. I really don't think we can make 3 NT, i really don't think pd has more than 1 ace to be honest. And EVEN If he has, 5 will still make, i doubt we can make 3 NT but i strongly doubt overtricks. Perhaps we need to find a bid to encourage pd to bid 5 with an Ace + void (or 2 aces)

we endplayed ourselves to pass here, our hand is devaluating more and more each bid, with some luck partner will bid 4 next and we will have a chance to make it.

Sorry, 1NT opener is 12-14 and 3D is our "only" diamond raise (2NT would be natural, 3H ask for stop in NT or show a big hand).

The hand was something like:

I doubled, intending it as for penalty but partner thought it was takeout and ran to 4D, then RHO bid 4H (which she probably could have done the first time) and I doubled that for penalty as well only to score up -990. -.-

Clearly I don't have enough to double 4H and I missed the fact the oppo have a major double fit, so I should just pass 3H. I see not many people want to pass 3H, but I think they are expecting more for the 3D bid?

Interesting interpretation of the data. Among those who have expressed a clear indication of what they would do, 2 (twoshy and Fluffy) of the 3 (adding billw55) say they would pass.

Yes, I admit I was expecting a fair amount more for the free raise to the 3 level.
