My first thought was 5♦, but now I have a great feeling about 3NT. Even then pass may be right.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the ♥3.

A similar example on the Australian Bridge bidding forum - Hand 5 of the March-June issue. (To see it, go to http://www.australianbridge.com/ then click BF archive on top left, then March-June). 3NT got 65% of the Expert votes, and 21% of the Reader votes.

I believe so strongly in 3NT. It's probably where we belong and there is no other way to get there (other than double but obviously partner will bid 4♥ way too often over that). Partner probably has spades stopped at least once, and even if not they might be blocked, and even if not very often they won't lead the suit since they expect we have the stopper. But no doubt I come out looking silly with a down 4 every now and then. That's just how it goes.

How is 3H a textbook bid with 7321 and AKJTxxx of hearts w/r? Seems like a textbook 4H
This is a comment from another thread and from a pretty good player with more l's in his name than LoL.
Sure looks like 3nt is the winner here.

Seem to recall Marshall Miles covered this tactic in "Inferences at Bridge" in an early chapter.
No ♠ raise from East makes it likely pard holds a stopper.
3N - and don't sweat it much.

My partner did bid 3NT for a top.
I didn't disagree with it, but wondered how good this was

So I find it harder to bid 3N here when you are vul, and also if the auction goes 2s p 3s.
I am interested in how other posters think these would affect the decision to bid 3N.

Vul it is still a slam dunk to me, RHO passed 3S so you know that partner must have some points and some spades, your hand is perfect for that, even when the risk is going down 3 or 5 or 900. Having only 10 points is perfect.
After a raise I would never consider bidding 3N and consider it somewhat suicidal. LHO will lead the suit more often when they can run it, and of course they will be able to run the suit more often after RHO has raised.
edit: Also should add, when RHO raises without a game try or anything, it still looks like partner has points, it is just less likely they are in spades. My point being, there is still a good chance we can bid and make 5D... our chances of that happening has gone up, and chances of 3N down have gone dramatically up.
