At the risk of sounding (more than I usually am):

- insensitive
- obtuse
- loud-mouthed

or voicing an issue that is better left for NABC bars and private messages....

"what was the sponsor of the Canadian Open team doing playing in the final set of the Monaco match?"

especially with the uber-hot Korbel and Miles sitting out??
Hi y'all!

It's his money. If his primary goal is to sponsor the winning team, he might be better off benching himself. But if what he really wants is experience in key sessions of a major event, then he may choose differently.

He was using the product that he'd paid for. If I'd spent all that money on getting to the Bermuda Bowl, I'd want to play the key matches too.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

People seem to have forgotten that you're supposed to be representing your country - it shouldn't be about your own personal agenda. But apparently all the Canadians who have supported the team throughout the tournament can go ***** themselves.

did he have a bad set?
Don't argue with a fool. He has a rested brain
Before internet age you had a suspicion there are lots of "not-so-smart" people on the planet. Now you even know their names.

No worse than the top two pairs did against Monaco in the final quarter of the previous event.

lol, we are talking about the pair that just won the vanderbilt after being 2nd in the vanderbilt playing instead of the basically unheralded korbel-miles (not that they are bad players).

Just because you have money does not make you a bad player, look at the results les and darren have had recently.

This is just too ridiculous for words. The assumption that amoils-wolpert played because of "personal agendas" when les has sat out every other time in this situation in the nationals with much more famous teammates than miles-korbel makes no sense.

edited out the rest, I don't want to get into this on here heh

Sorry, I don't know the people involved at all so I probably should have just kept my mouth shut. I was actually reacting to the first two responders who basically said that if you've paid your way onto the National team then you're entitled to have a free rein, regardless of how that affects your team's chances of winning.

I would make distinction between paying your way into the National team and paying *for* the national team. If the national federation is paying the costs of sending the team, they're entitled to control the lineup too. If somebody else is paying the costs of the team, it seems to me that he's entitled to determine how his money is spent, unless there's some prior agreement to the contrary.

If the national organisation doesn't want this to happen, they should take steps in advance to prevent it. For example, they could appoint their own NPC, and make it a condition of selection that the team accept the NPC.

I don't, however, know how the Canadian team is funded, so the premise of my original post may have been wrong.

I shouldn't have started this thread, and I certainly do not have a dog in this fight. I was just amazed at the 4Q lineup - I mean, you don't generally see the sponsor playing, especially when the requirement is 1/3.

Les and Darren are certainly talented. Too bad the team couldn't pull through.

A lot of amazing results in this tournament. My brackets are in tatters.
