The main lesson I have taken from this thread is that, in the two partnerships where we have agreed Rubensohl, partner and I are almost certainly not playing it the same way. Knowing you are playing the same version as your partner is a big plus to Leb in a casual or new partnership :)

You also need to agree which version of Lebensohl you are playing. In the US it is normal to play "slow shows"; in the UK it is traditional to play "NT, no stopper". I may be wrong but I thought the simple version I posted was "normal" Rubensohl and the alternatives that have been presented are small changes that have been created subsequently to solve certain issues. I have never read the original articles though so perhaps someone who has could confirm what the "official" designation of Rubensohl really is.

I saw this solution by Krzysztof Martens:

1NT - 2S - ???

2N = lebensoshl, signoff in any suit or GF with 4OM
3C = diamonds, invite+
3D = hearts, invite+
3H = ask for stopper without 4OM
3S = clubs, GF

Am I getting it right that this one allows you to distinguish between signoff/invite/GF while both lebensohl and rubensohl only allows you to choose 2 of those 3 ?

....

Where does this method distinguish between an invite and GF?
How do you show a club invite?
How do you show a primary club suit with 4 cards in hearts?
(With Rubensohl you bid 2NT followed by 3H)
Or how do you show a minor two suiter?
(With Rubensohl you bid 2NT followed by 3D)
It seems to me this method compared to Rubensohl creates as many holes as it tries to solve.

Opener completes the transfer if he would reject an invitation, then responder bids again with a game-force.

You can't, but you can't with Rubensohl either.

Yes, essentially you're swapping those two sequences for invitations in the red suits.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

If you play a weak NT, the competitive hands are more frequent than the invite.

So i play

2Nt-clubs or INV other suit.
3C D comp or GF
3D H comp or GF

going via the delayed way is victim to further competition. So having inv hand in 2Nt is a big loss. But for me its a matter of frequency since rightsiding is not negligeable when they know wich suit to lead. Im not sure what is best. The only time i play something different is when game is unlikely (passed hand X), in those case 2Nt for scrambling is much more important than lebensohl
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."
