Yes for X and yes for carrying onto game. We only have to make 40% of them vulnerable to show a profit so I think that I can take the risk that PD has a couple of useful cards.

EDIT: my bad for the 40% since I thought this was IMPs, but I still raise at MP.

I'm going to game via a 4 cuebid.

Unlikely we can bid slam but it could make opposite the K and 6 petunia clubs so I'll give pard a chance in case they have a bit more than that.

you just need to switch EW cards a bit for slam to be cold so no need to worry, its not like 3 opening non vul vs vul is a great indicator or bad breaks.

So you got to game with 24 hcp and an eight card fit and the trumps broke 5=0 - bad luck.

I wouldn't worry too much more about this one.

Game seems to need little more than the trumps breaking then you can count five club tricks (with a ruff), four diamond tricks (even if the finesse loses) and two top hearts.

5 is a normal middle of the road bid.

If you don't raise on this hand, what are you going to raise on?

Yeh, I would bid 5C, also. But I am confused by the post where someone mentions 40% games and vulnerability at matchpoints; and the post which points out the opps can make 420 while we are going for 500.

I should have spelled it out....expect some to play in 3sx or 4sx making......minus 500 maybe avg or better. :)

Well, it shouldn't be a zero, but avg or better might be a bit optimistic. West could choose to open 4S at this position and colors. It certainly looks more like a 4S shot than the hand on this thread.
