You hold x KJx AKT9 K87xx, team match at both vul
Your partner opened 1 (2+, prepared club). RHO overcalled 1. Suppose you bid 2 showing limit+ support in . LHO bid 4 and partner passed. What will you bid now?

A side issue: Is partner's pass forcing? (I guess not)

you have no clear course of action so X. As far as whether FP is in effect I think a clear meta agreement needs to be in place on what minimum action by responder needs to trigger it. IMO a qbid should be enough to trigger it.

Was 3 splinter an option for you instead of 2? If so I much prefer it, gets the whole hand off my chest and clearly sets up a forcing pass where partner also has more information.

If I couldn't do that (some play it as a transfer to 3NT) then 2 was ok and now I would double. Even with a singleton spade and 5 clubs I have a bad feeling about my offense so I'll take the cash. It's also possible for partner to pull it, maybe he just had to find out I had a game forcing hand.

I also like the splinter, but you're probably one of these modern people who plays that 3S is a transfer to 3NT.

Now it's pretty much a guess, I'll guess 5C.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

What does double mean here (assuming that thus is not a forcing-pass istuation)? I'd normally play double as penalties if a suit's been agreed, but takeout otherwise. In this sequence we've sort-of agreed clubs, except that we don't know that we have a fit there.

Most people would play pass as non-forcing here. I prefer it to be forcing; that would solve the problem on this hand.

I play pass as NF and prefer it that way. Would hate to be forced on hands where I think there is a good chance that they make 4S and I have only 4 clubs.

I think partner will almost always pass if we double. If partner had the shape to bid, she probably would have bid already, thinking either 4S or 5C might make. So while double doesn't show good spades, in practice it qualifies as a penalty double.

In fairness han is more right than I am in that it's a bit of a pipe dream for me to think partner will pull. Possible but unlikely.

Well I'm certainly not making a penalty double with this. I'd bid 5.

can partner have like
3352?
3343?
3442?

well I guess he'd double with very few clubs.

OK 5.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.
