Team Badger (starring Frances Hinden and Jeffrey Allerton) has just reached the semis of the Mixed Teams in San Remo. Congratulations!

Any other ACBL types annoyed by the fact that bridge players in the UK have much better monikers?

How many players in North America have really colorful nicknames?

"The Beast" is an obvious example. I suppose that MeckWell counts (though appreviating the names of two members of a long lived partnership lacks imagination)

Off hand, I can think of quite a few British players with (relatively) well known nicknames.

Seems kinda weird.

In a similar vein, UK teams often seem to have creative names (Badger being an obvious example) Here, they just seem to name themselves after the Captain...

Frances' team just lost their semifinal match by four IMPs.
I'm sure they're disappointed right now.

But they've done extremely well and won a bronze medal (no play-off).
Great effort, Frances - congratulations!!
Kind regards,
Harald

Congrats indeed, and another chance is looming, Hinden - Osborne qualified for the A-final of the pairs event as 6th overall, a useful carryover. One reason why mixed pairs is so interesting is because not many of the pairs are regular partners.

Thanks all for the nice comments.
Losing the semi by 4 imps still hurts, even though we played pretty badly in that match.

As for the team name, when you enter you are asked for what your team name is. I suggest that many teams have very 'dull' names because they are sponsored, and the team is named after the sponsor. We are all amateurs, and could call ourselves what we liked. 'Badger' has a long and personal history.

I wonder if the guys from my old garage band ever learned how to play bridge... lost touch with all of them. I think a bridge team called "Savage Sausage" could really spark a renewed fever for the game.
