My roommate is gone for work and I've been taking care of his cat for the past several days. She's easily the most annoying creature to live with ever. She has no problem scratching on my door to wake me up too early in the morning.

You can try to teach her not to do so, as I did to my old cat. Whenever she woke me scratching the door when she wanted to go up I would hit her.

She learnt quickly: After scratching the door and making sure I was awake she would run and hide under the bed, waiting for me to open the door and go to sleep, then she would go out without danger.

We got three inches of snow. In Minnesota this would not be noteworthy. In Maryland, in October, it is.

This is what passes for excitement in the life of a retiree.

I met some deaf communications majors last night.

They weren't deaf themselves; in fact they quite liked to talk to people who, like themselves, aren't deaf.

I'm sorry, did you say something?
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

Fortunately I know how to say "I'm sorry; I'm stupid" in sign language.

Just like any foreign language, if you at least give it a try and show some level of competence, you get a lot of respect.
