Somewhat off topic, but I am currently trying to reserve a room for the Las Vegas regional. This is annoying because my girlfriend and I both have allergies and substantially prefer a non-smoking room (in fact she has asthma and is sometimes completely unable to breath in a smoking room). Most hotels in Vegas permit smoking in some rooms and not in others, but they do not allow you to reserve a non-smoking room in advance (except in a few cases where the non-smoking room costs two to three times more than a regular room).

We have essentially decided to just show up in Vegas and drive from hotel to hotel trying to book a room the day before the tournament. This is rather annoying, both because it means we don't know where we are staying in advance and because we can't take advantage of any of the amazing deals available online.

It seems amazing to me that a place with so much tourist activity as Vegas doesn't better cater to the non-smoking crowd.

In practice it doesn't matter, I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill. Just take a great online deal, show up and take the room they give you (they are almost certain to have a non-smoking room available if you ask anyway), and if it smells just go downstairs and complain and I guarantee any hotel will give you another room. I think there is less than a 5% chance it would even come to that.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Doing a quick internet search I see many brand name hotels allow advance booking of a nonsmoking room for a small fee. I also found a 100% nonsmoking hotel.

I'd have agreed with you about this until last time we were in Vegas (summer nationals) when we actually had pretty serious issues. Our hotel apparently changed the designation of rooms as "smoking" or "non-smoking" between guests, so even the "non-smoking" rooms smelled of smoke. And they didn't have very many rooms available.

That sucks. I hate to say but it's probably a case of you get what you pay for, because that wouldn't happen at a great, good, or even decent hotel. Don't get me wrong I'm all for taking the best deal, I am fortunate enough to really have no requirements so I'll almost always take the cheapest accomodation I can find for an NABC.

There are many fine hotels allowing me to book non-smoking rooms for roughly $100 per night. However, this is roughly three times the rate available at many other hotels. If anyone knows of a place that's both cheap and has non-smoking availability, please let me know.

wow, $100 per night for a two person room in Vegas? I would consider that a bargain almost everywhere in Europe, and I thought Vegas was an expensive city.

Mike you are a fantastic help. Can you find hotels that are both cheap and non-smoking at the same time?

We are arriving June 22 (this monday!) and leaving Sunday June 28.

I'm aware of hotels.com, expedia.com, priceline.com and so forth. I frequently use these sites to make reservations. However, they do not have "non-smoking" as a feature upon which you can select the hotels. Even looking through the "details" it is difficult to figure out smoking policy. Of course, these sites have lots of great deals at under $50 per night.

I'm aware that all Marriott hotels are now non-smoking, however these generally cost around $100 per night in Vegas. I'm also aware that $100/night is a great rate in a lot of cities,, however part of why we are going to this regional rather than staying home or going somewhere else is because Las Vegas is a relatively cheap place to visit (we can drive there from our home in Los Angeles, hotels are cheap, food is relatively cheap).

There is a free 800 phone number in the link where you can talk with a human. :)

it also depends on what type of restaurants you want to dine in, if you want to see any of the shows, etc.
