Hey I am curriuos about that too, I got one of those used by icehockey players but it was so uncomfortable that I never succeded in falling asleep with such a monster (sorry) in my mouth. I will ask BBO user Toothpaste when I see him.

I shelled out for the real thing. Didn't think I'd ever get used to it. My dentist made several mods. She's amazing. Now I can't sleep without it.
Can't comment on relative effectiveness for teeth and jaw protection. For comfort, I can't imagine going with something off the shelf.
Maybe I have an over developed gag reflex. Still gagging on that last post.
