a partner has observed that i am always the dealer every time we sing up for a tournament. i started keeping track of it ,it has not failed yet.
then i started noticing that when i play with the other partner, he is always the dealer.
in the first case the names start with B AND K so i thought alphabetical orede
but in the second ccase the names start with letter b and l and the l guy gets to be dealer
so it is not an alphabet thing

how is the dealer chosen?

A somewhat different question but along the same lines...I was in a fairly large indy tournament today and for 4 of the 8 boards had the same person..twice as pard and twice as opp. There were something like 37 tables..twice only one person cycled away from the table. Towards the end of the tourney it seemed a bit more random. I would expect this with a small group but how does this happen with such a large group?

my impz is always negative
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

In an 'unclocked' tourney, the first (2/4/6?) tables to finish the round are advanced immediately to the next round, so if your table was particularly fast (or slow), you'll be joined by players from other fast/slow tables, with a higher probability of including players from your own previous table, not a random selection from the entire field.
Usually this evens out to some degree eventually as some of the originally 'fast' players have a slow board or delays while the 'slowies' manage to catch up and vice-versa.
If it was a clocked tourney, it's just an odd coincidence.

Hi,
the dealer and the vulnerability are depend on the number
of the board you are playing.
As far as I know reading some posts from Uday and Fred
this relationship is fairly hard coded.
With kind regards
Marlowe

Right, but Me and Mr. X sign up for a tourney. We end up being N-S, which I'll hope is either random or signup order (ie., there were an even number of pairs before we signed up).
How does the computer determine which of us is N? Is it based on who invited, or alphabetical order, or...
