Later in the first match of our two-match set, my LHO picked up this hand:

Scoring: IMP

Opponents are silent. Your side bids:

1 - 1
2 - 3
6 - ?

1. Do you agree with the actions taken by this player so far?
2. Do you convert to 6, or do you let your partner play in 6?

Hi,

#1 I guess 2S instead of 3S would be forcing?
If so, than I thinks I agree with the bidding.
#2 I play my own suit, partner may well have
a spade void, but I have cards in his suit.

With kind regards
Marlowe

I bid 6, but I can imagine passing 6 being the winning action.

I call a running 9 card suit, trumps and convert to 6. PD's bidding seems to be offering us a choice of 6 or 6 with emphesis on the , but in spite of our jump to 3 he cannot imagine our's are so good.

Must bid 6 spades.

Hand worth in Spades 9 tricks?
Hand worth in other contracts?

0 tricks, or 1 trick at most (spade lead)

The last time I held 9 solid, I had to put it down in dummy. Partner converted 7 to 7NT .

if partner has a spade void, i have potentially zero tricks for him. I convert to 6S

This hand was largely responsible for our win in the first of two round-robin matches played last week.

The North-South hands were:

1 - 1
2 - 3
6 - 6

A perfectly reasonable auction at our table. No doubt others will come up with variations, but the end result is reasonable. The hand was over quickly when the Q was led.

At the other tables, my teammates had an accident and wound up in 6NT from the red suited hand. But their accident was nothing like the accident of the person holding my cards on opening lead. I held:

Scoring: IMP

Not wanting to give anything away, the player holding my hand led a spade.....
