Pass. Why am I taking them out of their 7 card fit to play in our 7 card fit? What plus score am I protecting? If they were vulnerable, then double has upside, but NV? Am I expecting to beat them 2? Just let it go and be grateful partner got his lead director in.

What would redouble have meant on the previous round?

Although I play redouble as Rosenkranz after a 1-level overcall, I have specifically agreed to play it as general strength after a 2-level overcall. Comes in useful when the 3rd in opener has less than classical values (and, in particular, less than classical heart length) and partner has balanced high cards but can't act again.

So I redoubled last round.

Failing that, I pass now, because partner couldn't double 2H.

Wow. And partners get on my case when I raise with a doubleton to the two level in competition!

(For the record, I play XX as a support point stronger and this is an easy pass both times, but I don't claim my opinion is worth much on this).

I like X =partner do you see a 3rd defensive trick =SK, CQ? or not =3D. Try for 2xD +2xH +1xpartners +CK or SQ at minimum.

It's a South American thing. At least that's what I have seen.

I pass.

The opponents are not vul, so double only improves my score significantly if we beat them two tricks. And there is always the chance that they are making, in which case the double will not improve our score.

I hope to beat 2♥, but I won't stake my life on it. And there is no assurance that we have a plus score.

This is matchpoints, I am not going to pass and let them play merrily in their presumed best fit (my hearts are nice, but not that nice). So as much as I hate it, I am going to bid 3♦. This is not as bad as it seems, since partner rates to have six diamonds more often than five, and if he has five, they will be five good ones. 3♦ has several ways to win. 1) You might make it, 2) you might go down only 50 or 100 versus them making 110 in hearts, you might push them to 3H and they go down even when you can't make 3D. On the other hand, they might not be able to make 2H and you might not be able to make 3D and it could lose. You paid your entry fee, and you take your chances.

On the otherhand, I would not be in this position as I would have redoubled on the last round, and having said my piece then, retired from the auction. If you use that redouble after a two level overcall, you will not be in this uncomfortable situation now.

I'm passing now. Redouble a round earlier sounds like it would have been a good call.

I disagree that they are in their best fit. Sometimes people make a negative double with 4-5, 4-6, or 5-5 hands that are too weak to make two calls. What even suggests that this is a "fit" auction?

How do people play redouble?

My impression is that in the auction 1A-X-XX, the redouble shows general values, creates a force, and transforms subsequent doubles by our side to penalty.

A number of people have suggested that 1♥-2♦-X-XX here shows general values, but they seem not to play that it creates a force considering they subsequently would pass out 2♥.

I pass too. Double is really aggressive when you hear opener's pard make a negative double and the best opener can do is retreat into hearts again. Pard couldn't make some noise over 2♥ which concerns me.

As both opponents have shown strength in this auction, it makes sense to play that the redouble does not create a force. I think it would have been a good call.

Redouble can't create a force here when we are a passed hand IMO.
