Hi,

Can you help with a 3N system?

After 3N, when we know the hand is strong and bal/semi-bal (like 24-27hcp)

After a two-way 3N; the hand can be strong bal/semi-bal or the hand can be "long minor w/ side stoppers.

Thanks
Sonny

Over 3N=24-27, balanced:
1) You can play Kokish that allows you to open all strong balanced hands with 2N
2) If not, Play 4C=stayman, 4D/4H=transfers, 4S=both minors

Over 3N=two way:
Don't play this. There is no way responder can make a good decision over this type of convention.
Better:
Play the 3N opening as "No outside aces or kings" like xx Qxx AKQxxxx x
Play the 1m followed by 3N as "Same as 3N except have an outside ace or king or two". Ex: Kxx Kx AKQxxxx x
Play the 2C followed by 3N = "Same as 3N except several outside aces or kings" Ex: Ax Ax AKQxxxx Qx
Kokish allows you to more accurately quantative the number of tricks opener has.

Over the weak 3N opening bid:
4C = escape... Opener passes or corrects to 4D
4D asks for opener's shortness:
4H=heart shortness
4S=spade shortness
4N=7222
5C=diam shortness
5D=club shortness
It costs nothing to be nice -- my better half

By two-way, I mean something like:

(3S) - 3N

Maybe here 3N can be: AQ, Qx, Qx, AKJTxxx     or     KQx, AQx, AKJx, KQx

In that auction the 3NT bidder can have a balanced 17-count, 24-27 is far too high. I suspect that most would bid 3NT with a suitable balanced 16-count too.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
