I'd say NO, and hope the answer is NO.

Playing TDs are still TDs.

I think the reason being that as a playing TD you can't actually go to the table, so it's actually worse than useless. (Of course, personally I'd be more in favor of disallowing playing TD's all-together but that's neither here nor there.)

I'm of the opinion that one may be granted TD status not so one can simply organise tournaments to play in but to provide tournaments for others.

It's my experience that tournaments that use non-playing TDs run smoother and incidents requiring TDs are handled more efficiently.

I'd hate to see the TD button removed.

It is not going to happen. The director button has functions teh users can use without bothering the director... like find their own replacements for their absent partners. With a playing director, such buttons are very important.

I playing director should keep his tourneys to 8 tables or less.. then there will not be too many director calls. I see playing directors with 50 tables... those guys must be nuts....

I think they are referring to the very annoying pop-ups as you can't go to their table. In spite of the fact that you may have told them repeatedly to use tournament chat, most players don't bother to read the conditions.

clear that the answer is NO
but i think y have not considered the modification possibility completly

why not in this case limit playing TD number of registers and
then oblige the participants to chat in that category
TD's playing use the subterrefuge hosting with one pseudo and TD another to avoid having "those who cannot read" disturbing - but then was only as suggestion - i do not make 80 tables with TD playing - max is 12 tables per TD and it works

everyting - nearly is possible in computor techonology - just have to accomodate :)

Ben the only reason it is not going to happen is because Fred says so otherwise anything is possible, so it would be interesting to know why?

Unfortunately, most people seem unable to grasp that this function is there, I think a minority of people understand ths function and to be honest, I have used it, but it is not great if no subs are available and also it is extremely difficult to explain to people at your table that you are in the process of getting your own sub and this does not stop opps from calling the TD and this one of many reasons that I agree with the poster that you should be able to disconnect the button when you are a playing TD (I have voiced my opinion before on playing TD's so I wont go on about that)

another good reason for having a disable button is when two or 3 calll at the same time all you do is reject them anyway, so what is the difference? if no one can call and they have to use the chat at least you can keep better tabs on the people you have missed in the chat window or you could at least message them saying " busy will be with you shortly"

I ran possibly the hardest tourney I have ever ran in the whole time I have been on BBO the other moring and I guarentee that I rejected more than 60% of calls to the TD.
