As Marvin Gaye would say: What's going on?
Just a little something to distract ourselves in troubled times...
The GIB System notes say: "If it leads an honor that's part of a sequence, it uses standard honor leads (K from AKx, A from AK doubleton). If it leads from a long suit, it leads 4th best (but see above: it doesn't always lead its long suit). When leading from 3 small, it leads low against both suit and NT contracts."
But today! After p1Cp1Dp1NTp2Hp3NTppp At Trick 1, West leads the Ace from AK87. The honoravirus perhaps?

LOL
Here's what your post says Steve:
"2) K from AK+
GIB played the K on 1061/1061 occasions. Whew. Though, given the other results, I kind of find this surprising."
And that's exactly my experience as well, which is why I was shocked no, SHOCKED when the King appeared after the Ace. but then I guess I'm easily amused. especially these days.

That's in trump contracts. The correct lead from AKxx vs no trump is usually 'another suit', but if you're going to, any card could be right; even humans don't have hard and fast rules there..

Well, there's usually some variation of Ace for count, King for attitude, maybe visa versa for a few. Needless to say, this has zero application for GIB.
