I was running a free tournament when, all of a sudden, the video strip popped up on everybody's screen. Some could get video pictured, some couldnt, but non of us discovered a way to get rid of the strip. It was extremely distracting and caused problems with adjusting scores.

How do you switch it off if you don't want it?

There are a few similar questions related to the new Video Chat setting. Here's a reply I made a bit earlier:

Hi,

Voice chat is a new setting in tournament's settings. We accidentally activated it for all games when it was tried this morning, but we fixed meanwhile.

If you still have tournaments scheduled in advance, please make a small edit and save, to make sure you refresh the settings and video is off.

Sorry about this, we did not intent to surprise everyone like this. Maybe when your players are calmer, give it a try with an actual planned game -- it's quite enjoyable when players are prepared for it.

Is there going to be a charge for this service?
I noticed a change to the Tournament set up which implies a charge.

Yes there will be a charge. For now video chat open for free trial, nobody will be charged. It only works for tournaments with a BB$ entry fee for start, and only on desktop.

Our PR department sent a communication to the NBOs and to club managers, I'll forward it to you.

The price is per board, shorter tourneys will be cheaper. Yep I will forward on BBO. It's a pop-up, I'll send it to your username.

Sorry, what is the pricing model here?

Is it $.63 per board (charged to the folks running the tournament) or $.63 per user per board charged to the folks playing.

It's of no use when not supported on tablets (about half my players use iPads).

Charging when not supported on phones/tablets is a joke. You are basically asking people to pay for a service you are not providing.

Make it work, THEN charge for it: that's what the rest of the world does.

Can you make it generally available please - maybe in news or announcements? I had the pop up when I logged in to our virtual club account, but I didn't realise that I needed to take a copy of it to share it with the other directors at our club.

Thanks Peter

Can an individual player disable it for him/herself or it has to be the tournament organizer?

Hi,

The director chooses whether the setting is active or not.

Each player can turn off their camera or sound, but they cannot close the entire video chat column.

We are not charging though... It's free to use while in trial, and we are collecting feedback and bug reports as we build it.

$0.03 according to Diana's link - NOT 21X that amount!

How much does it cost?
Video Chat costs 0.03 BB$ per board, per player. An estimated total cost per player will be displayed in your tournament settings, next to the entry fee. This estimate is based on the number of boards you selected. The actual total cost per player may vary, depending on how many boards are actually played (for example if you run a howell and the final number of boards is different from the number filled in when setting up your game).

Very pricey. Play 10 boards, pay $6.30 - more than the tourney.......

I think he misunderstood the per-player cost as the per-board cost. $0.63 is the cost per player in a 21-board tourney.
